b'General MeetingsFall General Meeting 2023From November 19-21, ASBA held its 2023 Fall General Meeting with attendance from theHonourable Salma Lakhani, AOE B.Sc., LLD (Hon), Lieutenant Governor of Alberta; HonourableDanielle Smith, Premier of Alberta; Honourable Demetrios Nicolaides, PhD, ECA, Minister ofEducation; and, various MLAs and cabinet ministers. Canadian School Boards AssociationsPresident, Alan Campbell, additionally provided remarks. During the event, members celebrated award recipients, conducted elections for ASBAsPresident and Vice-president, passed position statements and participated in professionaldevelopment. Members re-elected Marilyn Dennis as President and Shali Baziuk as Vice-president to serve their second terms. Member-passed position statements are available on ASBAs website. Spring General Meeting 2024From June 2-4, ASBA held its 2024 Spring General Meeting. The Honourable Danielle Smith,Premier of Alberta, expressed her strong support for ASBA and our locally-elected members.Additionally, ASBA appreciated the Honourable Demetrios Nicolaides, PhD, ECA, Minister ofEducation, bringing remarks and answering questions during our business day. Canadian SchoolBoards Associations President, Alan Campbell, also provided remarks.Members participated in a Ministerial Engagement & Alberta Insights panel; passed one positionstatement; celebrated the 2023-24 ASBA Trustee Governance Program cohort and took part inlearning on emerging topics.ASBA was pleased to host a ministerial panel with the Honourable Rajan Sawhney, Minister ofAdvanced Education; Honourable Muhammad Yaseen, Minister of Immigration andMulticulturalism; MLA Chelsae Petrovic, Parliamentary Secretary for Health WorkforceEngagement; and, MLA Myles McDougall. Additionally joining us for a public affairs panel wereJanet Brown, Principal, Janet Brown Opinion Research; Jason Lietaer, President, EnterpriseCanada; and, Tiphanie Roquette, Reporter, Radio-Canada.
