ASBA appreciated Albertas Minister ofEducation for joining to connect on education issues and trends.GovernmentEngagementsOver the past year, ASBA has hosted twoengagement sessions with the Governmentof Alberta.Engagement with Ministry of Education On October 12, 2023, ASBA hosted ameeting with Board Chairs andSuperintendents to discuss and hearupdates from the Minister of Education anddepartment officials related to key topicsfrom the Ministers mandate letter,including career education; capitalplanning; mental health; complex needs;program unit funding; and, curriculum. Inattendance were the Minister of Education,the Deputy Minister of Education andvarious Assistant Deputy Ministers.Engagement with Ministry of Education onmandate priorities On March 18, 2024, ASBA hosted anengagement co-led by ASBA and theMinistry of Education, with participationfrom Board Chairs, Superintendents andthe College of Alberta SchoolSuperintendents, to collaborate onsolution-focused ideas for key educationpriorities. In attendance were the Ministerof Education, the Deputy Minister ofEducation and various Assistant DeputyMinisters.Government relations and legislationASBA continued to strengthen relationships with government at the municipal, provincial andfederal levels and advocate on behalf of our members on policies, programs, regulations,legislation and priorities related to education. This includes regular touchpoints with theMinister of Education, Deputy Minister and other ministry staff.
