As the promise of summer nears, I know many educators and education partners are looking forward to the break. For me, summer means the National Trustees Gathering on Indigenous Education & CSBA Congress! Not only is the conference a wonderful way to kick off the summer, this year in Toronto, but it’s an excellent professional development and networking opportunity.
The Ontario Public School Boards Association has been working hard to develop a strong program of keynote speakers, workshops, and presentations.
An exciting addition to the conference this year is the inaugural presentation of the CSBA National Reconciliation Partnership Award. We were pleased to receive multiple nominations for the award, and I am looking forward to celebrating the work of our first recipient.
In April I attended the National School Boards Association annual conference in New Orleans, bringing greetings to delegates on behalf of CSBA. The work being done in our two countries is very similar as we are all dedicated to keeping local voice in
public education. While the systems may look a bit different, the principle of public education is the same, and the strength of locally elected governing boards is as well.
I was also fortunate to attend the Manitoba School Boards Association annual general meeting and the British Columbia School Trustees Association annual general meeting. It is a great honour and pleasure of mine to represent CSBA at provincial events, showing our national support for initiatives and activities at the provincial level.
In this bulletin you will read about the work of our association. I continue to be moved by the dedication our board members and trustees have to students, families, communities and education across Canada.
I look forward to seeing you in July in Toronto!
Sincerely,
Alan Campbell, President
