The Canadian School Boards Association

The Canadian School Boards Association (CSBA) was founded in 1923 by school trustees from Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and British Columbia, and incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1965. The CSBA Constitution outlines the guiding principles, procedures, and responsibilities for the organization and was last revised in November 2020.

Today, the CSBA represents elected governing school board members from provincial school boards associations across Canada. The CSBA advocates for advances in public education for millions of students, promotes the value of locally elected school boards, and provides professional development, research, and collaboration opportunities for governing school board members. Strong school board leadership plays a vital role across the country and has a direct impact on student achievement and school success for all Canadian students.

President's Message

The Canadian School Boards Association is a true representation of the strength and optimism that make our country one of the greatest places in the world for living and learning. With a diversity of perspectives, opinions and cultural competencies that flow in abundance from our provincial school boards associations and affiliate members, CSBA holds a unique national position on all matters related to public education from coast to coast to coast.

I am honoured to have been elected President of CSBA in July of 2022. In my first address to our membership, I deliberately referenced the clarity and importance of our 2022-2025 Strategic Priorities:

  • Advocacy
  • Indigenous Education
  • Equity, Diversity & Inclusion
  • Comprehensive School Health

At a time when there is perhaps more focus on public education in our country than at any point in our history, ensuring that all students are receiving the supports and learning opportunities they need will be a mammoth undertaking, requiring the collective support of everyone from our grassroots community members, school communities, Indigenous leaders, and all levels of government.

The CSBA Strategic Priorities and the foundations beneath them encapsulate this reality well.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. I strongly encourage you to explore it thoroughly, including links to our annual reports, national partners and member associations.

Sincerely,

Alan M Campbell, President
