Teachers, Copyright, and Fair Dealing – Know your rights and know your limits!
Thinking of using a short excerpt from a copyright-protected work in your classroom? First, find out if you need permission from the copyright owner. The Fair Dealing Decision Tool helps teachers decide, with just a few clicks, whether fair dealing permits classroom use of short excerpts from print materials, artistic works, or audiovisual materials without needing to obtain copyright permission.
It takes 30 seconds on FairDealingDecisionTool.ca to determine if the intended use is fair dealing. This site helps teachers decide, with a few clicks, whether the fair-dealing provision in the Copyright Act permits copying of short excerpts from print materials, artistic works, or audiovisual materials for students without having to get copyright permission.
Every teacher should bookmark the Fair Dealing Decision Tool: www.FairDealingDecisionTool.ca

Comprehensive school health remains a strategic plan priority for the association. The focus for CSBA has been supporting a national school food program, which has been a priority for the entire board of directors. The strategic plan identified the need to advocate for a national school food program and policy, and everyone was pleased to see the program announced by the federal government.
We are committed to demonstrating leadership and providing a national voice in responding to the health and wellness challenges of students across Canada. Our Charter of Commitment provides a clear mission, terms of reference and a framework for our work.
From our partners at PHE CANADA…
“Healthy children have increased capacity to learn and develop the values, attitudes and skills necessary to be competent, effective and resilient adults. Learning environments that promote and support student and child well-being focus on their cognitive, emotional, social and physical development – a whole child/student approach. This comprehensive approach aims to improve student health and educational success through the creation of healthy school communities.
A healthy school community promotes a culture of wellness for all its members: students, teachers, administrators, principals, staff, parents, and community partners. Together, the school community implements plans to create an environment that supports healthy choices among its members.”

School Board Election Resources
As a part of a project supported by the CSBA membership to take action against racism in the education sector, the University of Regina team has developed a set of resources to support School Board elections to seek greater cultural diversity in candidates.
These resources are available for public distribution and to encourage more culturally diverse candidates to consider running for school board. To best support all students, we need to invite diverse and traditionally racialized candidates so that boards reflect all voices at the governance level, in addition to looking at governance practices to truly welcome candidates to actively participate.
Provinces are invited to share these materials with education partners and those interested in public education governance. Associations are also able to add their logos to the materials. The graphics are perfect for social media posts, or adding to email signatures.
