Winter 2025: Canadian School Boards Association President' Bulletin

Winter 2025

The Canadian School Boards Association (CSBA) is a true representation of the strength and optimism that make our country one of the greatest places in the world for living and learning. With a diversity of perspectives, opinions and cultural competencies that flow in abundance from our membership, CSBA holds a unique national position on all matters related to public education from coast to coast to coast.

I would like to welcome David Wasylciw as our Vice-President. David is the chairperson of Yellowknife Education District No. 1. The Association and Board of Directors thank Jaimie Smith-Windsor for her service as Vice- President.

I am grateful to the CSBA members and board for their confidence in my leadership as President. The work and responsibility of this position have

defined much of my life since my election, and I look forward to working with all of you as we continue this incredible journey together. I am also grateful to Nancy Pynch-Worthylake for her years of service as our Executive Director.

As announced in February, Nancy will be completing her contract at the end of July. Nancy has been a champion for governing school boards for many years, long before joining CSBA as Executive Director. She will be missed by the Board of Directors and members across the country.

There have been many highlights for me since elected as President in 2022, including new and meaningful engagement with education partners and the federal government. Ensuring that school boards locally and provincially, as well as associations provincially and nationally, are brought to the table on education and student-related initiatives such as the National School Food Program has been a top priority for the association.

It has also been an honour to be involved in the development of the CSBA National Reconciliation Partnership Award. In July, 2024, we presented the inaugural award to Quw'utsun Syuw'entst Lelum/Cowichan Tribes and Cowichan School District, and we look forward to continue working with the Assembly of First Nations on this award program.

There has never been a more important time for local democratic voice in public education and the CSBA is working tirelessly on behalf of all children and youth. Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. I strongly encourage you to explore it thoroughly, including links to our annual reports, President’s Bulletins, national partners and member associations.

Sincerely,
Alan Campbell, President
