b'Indigenous Relations ASBAs Indigenous Advisory Circle, whose members include voices representing Dene, Cree, Saulteaux, Nakota, Blackfoot, Tsuutina, Inuit and Mtis families, continued to guide and support the work of the organization toward Truth and Reconciliation. The Indigenous Advisory Circle provides advice, guidance, direction and support to our Board of Directors, the Executive team, ASBA staff and school boards. ASBA and the Indigenous Advisory Circle hosted the 2019 Honouring Spirit: Indigenous Student Awards withHonouring Spirit: Indigenous Student Awards 2019the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, Her Honour, the Honourable Lois E. Mitchell, CM, AOE, LLD, and recognized 12 outstanding students for exemplary leadership, honour, courage and commitment to their own education path. ASBA and the Indigenous Advisory Circle look forward to hosting the Honouring Spirit: Indigenous Student Awards virtually this fall.Advocacy The goal of ASBAs Advocacy Committee is to support all of Albertas locally-elected school boards as influential decision-makers in support of public education. ASBAs Executive team travelled to zone meetings throughout the 2019 year to gather feedback and input from our membership. Advocacy initiatives included a social media campaign to raise awareness of the choice that exists within Albertas public, catholic and francophone school boards. Additional advocacy work included: supporting all boards; school re-entry; funding framework; collective bargaining and the Teachers Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA); lobbying; and more.We are excited to continue moving our advocacy forward, enhancing the supports enhancing the supports ASBA provides to school boards and ensuring a strong presence at the provincial level. As a membership-driven organization, ASBA will continue to be proactive and ensure our members voices are brought to the table. ASBAs new strategic plan was approved this spring by the Board of Directors with input from members. This increased member input was an integral piece in developing and finalizing the planwe look forward to implementing this plan come September 1, 2020.Since the onset of the pandemic, ASBA has advocated on behalf of our members and worked closely with the Alberta Government and educational partners on school re-entry.
