b'REPORTS 4.Strategic Area: Health Specific health education issues are addressed:oVaping oStudent Transportation oCannabis oDistrict-wide health is facilitated and supported.The Executive Director provides regular progress reports to the Board.Health Education Work Team The Health Education Work Team was very active throughout 2019-2020. Sue Stevenson, Retired Administrator and Health Education Consultant, provided on-going support to the Work Team. Student vaping was a major focus for the Work Team. At the recommendation of the Chair, the President of CSBA wrote to all health ministers acknowledging the progress made in specific provinces and territories and urging them to: 1.Ban flavoured reusable and disposable vape devices,2.Reduce nicotine content in vapour pods,3.Increase taxes on vaping devices (minimum 20%),4.Support/fund: Youth-led anti-vaping campaigns Education supplements for elementary schools5.Require health warnings on packaging6.Control advertising 7.Restrict e-cigarette use in public places (schools - areas where youth spend time - bus shelters, malls, community parks, arcades, theatres, and amusement parks) 8.Increase the legal age limit.The CSBA continues to be an active member of the Alliance for Healthy School Communities. At the recommendation of the Work Team, the CSBA Board of Directors endorsed the Alliance Declaration, which calls on everyone involved in education to work towards comprehensive health. The Work Team vetted a number of requests for endorsement and approved the revamping of materials posted on the CSBA website to ensure they are current. The Work Team also approved a process for the Executive Director and the Consultant to vet materials to determine if they should be posted and or endorsed. The Executive Director is collaborating with School Mental Health Ontario and the Canadian Association of School System Administrators in the development of a national education leaders network on mental health. The Work Team looks forward to this moving forward and to reporting on its progress in 2021.Health Education will continue to be a focus for the CSBA and the Health Education Work Team looks forward to continued on-line meetings in support of public school governance.'
