Terry Brookes
Terry has been a school board trustee since 1994, with over thirty-one years with the Yellowknife Education District #1(YK1), and continues to serve YK1. He has held the position of chair and vice-chair for numerous occasions, and been committee chair on all of YK1’s committees during his tenure. Previously he was Chair of Education for several years in the Inuit community of Cambridge Bay in Nunavut. He has a strong grounding in working with grassroots education, talking with parents and working with legislative members. Always looking for the common ground where we can all move forward together.
Terry is an avid life-long learner; a practice he follows every day. Always expanding his background. He studied engineering and economics at the University of British Columbia, and Public Administration at the University of Victoria. He is a semi-retired professional engineer. He has served as chair of his professional association. He also served on the national board of Engineers Canada, and is recognized as a Fellow of Engineers Canada. He is also a layperson in the Law Society of the Northwest Territories.
Terry’s wife is a retired teacher, together they have four children and seven grandchildren. Terry is an amateur magician, and loves to put a smile on a child’s face.
