CSBA Members and Federal Leaders Meet in Ottawa

October 4, 2023, Ottawa, ON: Education leaders and political leaders are meeting in Ottawa this week to discuss public education in Canada.

The Canadian School Boards Association (CSBA) board of directors are holding meetings with multiple Members of Parliament, Senators, and senior staff to identify opportunities to better serve students in Canada. While public education is a provincial government mandate, education leaders understand the important connection with federal leaders and ministries.

“We are pleased to be meeting with leaders from different ministries and offices this week to talk about how we can work together on portfolios related to public education,” says CSBA President, Alan Campbell. “Over the last few years, we have developed strong working relationships with a number of federal offices and we appreciate having the opportunity to continue our discussions with them.”

The CSBA will meet with over twenty officials in Ottawa. “Ongoing collaboration with federal partners is critical in the support of public education,” said President Campbell. “Federal mandates, including Indigenous education, health, mental health and addictions, Official Languages, community safety, immigration, and many more, directly impact students and school communities. We are hopeful these meetings will identify areas where we can work together.”

The CSBA represents governing school board members from across the country through their provincial associations. The CSBA champions collaboration and innovation in public education as applied to both the delivery of education and system governance.
