The Honourable Joan Burke, Minister of Education for Newfoundland and Labrador, launched education week in the province via an interactive webcast yesterday. This was a fitting start to the 2011 theme of “I Think. I Can. – iThink. iCan!, Penser, c’est pouvoir. – iPenser. iPouvoir! that addresses technology, personal development and community.
This morning’s launch was indicative of the technological advances present in our schools in the 21st century…technology is being used across the curriculum to enhance teaching and learning. It is bringing the world into the classroom, and – as we experienced this morning – it has the power to bring together groups of people to learn, to explore, or to celebrate.”
The Honourable Joan Burke
The province has invested heavily in technology for K-12, as well as technology and infrastructure for e-learning. For more information on e-learning initiatives in the province see the Centre for Distance Learning and Innovation.
