BOARD DEVELOPMENT

Welcome to the Trustee Development section of the CSBA Web site!  We have a number of on-line resources available, packed with information and knowledge that will assist you in developing your skills as a trustee.

The Board Learning Centre
The BLC is an educational Web tool that has been developed to support a curriculum of trusteeship, complementing the activities of provincial associations. The learning modules are produced specifically to support the training needs of school trustees in Canada.

The following learning modules are currently available:

  • Should I Be a School Trustee?
  • Board Authority and Autonomy
  • Advocacy
  • Ethics
  • Becoming a Better Board Chair
  • Policy Role
  • Strategic Planning
  • School Board/Superintendent Relationship
Five additional modules are currently being developed:
  • Developing an Accountability Framework
  • Community Engagement
  • Board’s Policy role
  • Fiscal Management
  • Communications
The partners in the BLC have created the contents of these modules.  They have been digitized by one of the best production houses in the country, using the latest in Internet multi-media technology.  Other services being planned for the site are a discussion area and a calendar of events.

The Educational Leadership Learning Network (ELLnet)
ELLnet is a group of education Participant Organizations that have come together to develop an online infrastructure for facilitating the development and sharing of content on leadership in education, and to explore sustainability models.

ELLnet is a collaborative approach to leadership in education that will:

  • Engage educational leaders in the use of advanced networks for learning;
  • Foster effective practice in the use of new digital learning materials;
  • Achieve a broader understanding and support for digital educational content and associated technologies in the classroom;
  • Provide an opportunity to share existing content and develop new learning content (modules) on educational leadership that can be shared among a network of organizations nationally and internationally;
  • Allow participating organizations to maximize their investment in digital content.
The ELLnet project represents a change in approach and direction for the education system.  Concretely, it is a unique set of learning technologies intended to reduce structural barriers to inter-organization collaboration and the use of technology and broadband networks for education and training. ELLnet provides an opportunity to pool resources to make available leadership learning content to a large community of learners, thereby realizing economies of scale, increasing inter-organization collaboration and fostering the effective use of technology for education and training.
